Library Building Complex Foundation Stone - RUKMINI BHAVAN for VNR Senior Citizens

In a heartwarming ceremony hosted by VNR Senior Citizens’ Home, a significant step towards enhancing the quality of life for our senior citizens was taken. On October 27, 2021, RG RAO Trust proudly laid the foundation stone for the "RUKMINI BHAVAN" Reading Room and Library building complex at the VNR SENIOR CITIZENS’ HOME Premises. This project embodies our commitment to the welfare of our elder community members.

The "RUKMINI BHAVAN" Library building will encompass 270 square feet of space and a welcoming 6'x12' verandah. This visionary project includes a well-appointed Reading Room, a collection of enriching library books, essential furniture (50 chairs and tables), a restroom facility, and an inviting verandah for our cherished senior citizens. RG RAO Trust has allocated an estimated budget ranging from 3.5 to 4 lakhs for this noble endeavor, with an ambitious completion target of just 3 months.

Sri. T. Purushotham Rao, Chairman of the High Power Committee on Remote & Interior Area Development, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He acknowledged the importance of senior-centric facilities like old age homes and recreational centers in fostering a vibrant and healthy life for senior citizens. RG RAO Trust's commitment to providing library facilities as part of this initiative was commended.

Mr. B. Damodhar Rao, Managing Trustee of RG RAO Trust, emphasized the creation of recreational centers to enrich the lives of senior citizens and spoke passionately about extending legal services to support them as per "The Maintenance of Senior Citizens and Parents Act – 2007."

This project represents RG RAO Trust's unwavering dedication to serving our senior citizens, ensuring they lead their lives with peace and pride. Together, we are building a brighter future for our elders, and "RUKMINI BHAVAN" is a testament to our commitment to their well-being.

During the devastating floods that swept through the Krishna and Tungabhadra regions in India, leaving in their wake one of the most catastrophic natural disasters of the century, RG RAO Trust launched its "Kurnool Flood Relief Initiative." This catastrophic event resulted in widespread loss of life, an outbreak of diseases, and extensive damage to homes, crops, and infrastructure. The flood left more than two million people homeless and bereft of their possessions, while claiming the lives of over 271 individuals. The financial toll of the disaster ran into millions.

In response to this dire situation, RG RAO Trust swiftly mobilized its relief efforts, with our dedicated teams arriving on the ground within 48 hours. We provided critical assistance in the form of clothing and clean drinking water to alleviate the immediate suffering of the affected families. Our relief efforts extended to approximately 500 families, offering them a lifeline during this challenging period.

To enhance the impact of our relief efforts, we partnered with Vishal Handlooms in Hyderabad, a collaboration for which we are profoundly grateful. This partnership enabled us to promptly secure and distribute clothing to those in urgent need, reinforcing our commitment to providing timely support to disaster-stricken communities. RG RAO Trust remains steadfast in its dedication to serving communities in their times of greatest need, fostering hope, and aiding in the process of recovery and rebuilding.

RG RAO Trust's water plant initiative, in collaboration with Naandi Foundation, is a transformative endeavor dedicated to providing safe drinking water to five villages in Chandurthi Mandal, Karimnagar district. At its core, this project is about more than just water; it aims to create a lasting positive impact on the community.

The project's success relies on dedicated ground-level staff, including the Operator and the RG RAO Trust Water plant team, who work tirelessly to ensure the plant's smooth operation and promote safe drinking water awareness. Their meticulous record-keeping and regular quality testing guarantee that the water meets stringent safety standards.

A pivotal figure in this operation is the Field Coordinator (FC), responsible for identifying and addressing any operational gaps, training needs, equipment issues, and community engagement strategies. The FC plays a vital role in maintaining the plant's efficiency, making regular visits to each site and liaising with the Quality Analysis Team (QAT) for water sample testing.

The project's intended impact is twofold. In the short term, it strives to provide access to safe drinking water in the five villages, surpassing permissible limits for water contaminants. In the long term, RG RAO Trust aspires to reduce waterborne diseases, decrease expenses associated with alternative water sources and medical treatment, enhance school attendance, and encourage greater male involvement in water collection.

Despite the challenges of pricing water access to cover operational costs, the project remains committed to ensuring affordability for the community. To achieve this, the Trust has partnered with Naandi Foundation, offering water at a nominal rate of 1 liter for Rs. 2. Community engagement through focus group discussions and consultations is key to explaining the reasons behind these efforts and the long-term benefits they bring to the community.

In the heart of Karimnagar District, Telangana, lies Sudhala village, a place where access to clean drinking water was once a distant dream. Residents suffered from a myriad of health issues – diarrhoea, joint pains, typhoid, and recurring fevers – all attributed to the unsafe water sources in the area. Local amenities, like the village pond's filtration system and an outdated overhead tank, failed to provide potable water. Groundwater, on the other hand, contained alarming levels of fluoride and chlorine.

In response to this dire need, RG RAO Trust, in collaboration with Aqua Solutions of Hyderabad, established a 500-litre-per-hour Reverse Osmosis water treatment plant in Sudhala in 2009. The project, sponsored in memory of Late Smt. Bontha Surya Kumari by B. Damodhar Rao, aimed to transform the lives of Sudhala's residents.

This initiative not only adheres to government safety norms but also significantly improves the health and well-being of the community. Prior to the plant's installation, the village saw around 10 cases of waterborne diseases every week. However, since accessing clean water from the plant, these illnesses have become a thing of the past.

Moreover, RG RAO Trust's water treatment plants serve not only Sudhala but also neighboring villages, creating a ripple effect of positive change. Villagers from surrounding areas flock to these plants to buy clean water or have it delivered to their homes, all at minimal maintenance charges.

The Sudhala water treatment plant stands as a testament to RG RAO Trust's commitment to providing clean drinking water to remote and underserved communities, ultimately improving the health and well-being of countless individuals in the region.
